Picker Bible How to Pick Antiques Like the Pros Joe Willard 0074962017192 Books Reviews

  • I don't like giving negative reviews, especially to smaller publications, but at $15, The Picker's Bible was a big disappointment. It's poorly written, poorly organized, poorly edited, and thin on practical advice, unless you need to be repeatedly told how noble and fun the profession of picker is.
  • A polished cover but amateur inside. Poorly edited, and the photographs are so grainy and pixilated, they look like copies of copies of copies from a basement photocopy machine. The book cover says the book is easy to use, but it's actually a rambling and circuitous stab at cashing in on the hot word, "pickers." The publishers an editors of Antique Trader magazine are responsible for this effort, this attempt, and should consider revising and reprinting the book with clear and careful editing and clear and crisp illustrations. I recommend waiting for a revised edition.
  • Did not expect this to be entertaining but it is. It's an easy pick up and put down read as you go kind of book. Has a lot of interesting tips in it which I plan on using. I'm picking for my own business...don't know that I'll run around and offer finds to others. Enjoyable reading and I think you'll be satisfied.
  • My dad hardly ever reads books, but in the past couple years him and I have been really getting into antiquing and going to the world's longest chain or garage sales and things like that, so I thought this would be a great Christmas gift.

And I was right! Since Christmas day I've caught him reading it countless times and we've gone antiquing since he's started reading and he seems to really be learning things from the book, it's great!
  • Gave this book to a picker friend who has found it readable and with useful information.
  • I enjoyed the book overall, but felt the subject of the book came across as a 'know-it-all'.
Would have liked to have found out more about buying and selling in the antique business, but finished the book feeling as if I never will.
  • Lots of good tips that are both motivational and informational. I'm glad that I purchased it, despite the typos that could have been picked up by the editor reading through it again.
  • Not helpful. I felt this was just random thoughts and experiences put into words, and no real good content. Some serious no-brainer stuff in here such as 'use the internet to sell stuff'. Really??? I'm 3/4 through this book and am only finishing it because it's the only thing I have to read right now and it helps put me to sleep. With a title like "Picker's Bible", I expected a lot more substance.
