- What's so often baffling for gentile readers seeking out Rashi commentaries is that such works often are by rabbis within their own school of rabbinic interpretation and thought, not so much popular with alternative writers; and some are so wed to Hebrew textualism presuming a knowledge beyond the gentile eye. I would hope this work is as inviting to gentiles as to Jews, a wonderful window open wide on this historic interpretive figure from the Middle Ages, in itself a companion to weekly parsha. For gentiles, a great way to read Torah without christologies lurking around every corner. ... The binding presents a challenge - the format is great, making it seem smaller and therefore less challenging to the new Rashi reader. The surface treatment of the cover makes for a volume which, with only occasional use, will take a rather soiled appearance too soon - mine arrived with finer prints. I also think a cloth cover edition is in order, given JPS Torah series. Authors Rabbi Steven Levy and Mrs. Sarah Levy, and Jewish Publication Society, are to be congratulated on this fine publication event. ... Bishop Joel Marcus Johnson

Steven and Sarah Levy have created a vehicle for bringing the medieval scholar’s insights to life for contemporary readers of all ages. It makes Rashi accessible to those with limited biblical education, as well as those with scholarly backgrounds. It is a powerful education tool.

- Nice short chapters relevant to parsha. Rashi excerpts are in regular Hebrew, not in Rashi script.

- I mean, it looks ridiculous. Could they not just print it upright like a normal book? The content is good, but it looks real stupid amongst nice seferim that I've invested in to be both great for learning AND to look great in a library.
